A staff sling consists of stout staff, often the same size and weight as a quarterstaff, with a leather strap loop at one end containing a payload cup. The weapon is fired by loading the payload cup and then swinging the staff overhead with both hands. The additional length of the staff adds a great deal of velocity to the payload, far more than can be achieved by simply throwing. Staff-slings are indirect-fire weapons, arcing towards their target. For this reason, targets in Point Blank range (30') are -2 to hit.

Commonly, those that use a staff sling for ranged attacks wrap the leather thong about the end and wield the staff itself when they need a melee weapon (treat as quarterstaff in all particulars including double weapon).

The ammunition is heavier than a traditional sling. The greater payload of a staff sling makes it an ideal launcher for grenade-type weapons such as vials and flasks.
